New to K1UMC?

Never been here before?  Here are some things you might like to know!

Directions to the church: click here for a map.

What to wear?
Whatever is most comfortable for you. We are happy you’re here and want you to be yourself in worship. If you like dressing up, you’re welcome to break out the tie and heels, but if jeans and t-shirts are your thing, that’s great, too. We're not concerned about how you dress here. Really.

What happens when you first walk in?
Someone will greet you at the door and will show you where things are. There is coffee available for those who need a cup to get going. Children can be signed into the nursery or you can bring them with you to worship.

Where should you sit?
Wherever you want. If you take someone's usual seat, that person will just move somewhere else. No big deal.

How does the service begin?
Each service begins differently. At the 11am service, processional music with a traditional hymn will begin the time as the light of Christ come in to signal to us that worship has begun. At Under the Cross at 5pm, the band will help you move into worship with music.

Where are the restrooms?
To the left of the main entrance hall. There are also restrooms in every children's classroom and in the nursery.

What is Holy Communion?
Also known as the Eucharist, or the Lord's Table, it is a time when we receive God’s grace as we simultaneously remember Christ’s sacrifice for us, break bread with saints throughout the ages, and get a taste of life in glory.

You will be invited to come as you wish to front of the church. One person will give you a piece of bread. Another will offer a cup with grape juice, and you dip the bread into the cup and then ingest it. If you can't come forward, a server can bring the communion elements to you. Gluten free bread and a separate cup is always made available for those who cannot tolerate gluten products.

If you choose not to participate, that is also fine. There is no pressure. You do not need to be a member of this church or a United Methodist to participate.

How do you join the church?
In the United Methodist Church, we ask that you show your faithfulness to God by supporting the church with your prayers, presence, gifts, service, and witness. To figure out what this would look like for you or to ask any questions you may have, just talk with the pastor, Don Kirsch. She'll walk you through the process.
